Evening Program

Fieldwork slam/ Thursday evening:

There's more to fieldwork than what we publish in scientific papers. Following the concept of poetry slams, VANDA provides a stage and a microphone for everyone who wants to share experiences and stories from their work in the field. Vienna's finest storytellers will slam it out with our conference guests. Gain fame and glory by getting in the spotlight and sharing your funniest or most interesting stories. The audience will decide if you are worthy of the title 'Fieldwork Slammer of the Year'.

If you want to share your experiences and stories from your work in the field, please send an e-mail to vanda.act@univie.ac.at to reserve your place on stage!

After work Party/ Saturday evening:

The party group will make sure that we can celebrate after the conference, get in touch with one another, and dance! We will offer live music and drinks. Location and Line up will be announced soon.

Short Vanda Movies:

"We need to see the world from as many perspectives as possible": Every afternoon we are offering short movie screenings with ethnographic and documentary film highlights from the festival archives of ethnocineca (International Documentary Film Festival Vienna).

Football Match:

The city of Vienna is the hometown of the probably most famous anthropological football club of the northern hemisphere – the Polar Bears United FC. The football club was founded during a field research internship in Alaska in 2015. Since then many matches have been played at the sport center “Marswiese” – the home ground of the Polar Bears.

During the VANDA Conference a team of international researchers will have the unique opportunity to play against the Polar Bears. The match will take place Thursday, 20th Sept. from 3:30 pm – 5 pm at the sport center “Marswiese” with 8 players on each side. A shuttle service will pick up the players at the NIG (VANDA - Conference building) around 3pm. After the match, we will bring all players back to the NIG and they can enjoy the evening program of the conference.

Interested, but no football boots in your luggage? No Problem! You can rent boots at the sport center “Marwiese” for €3.

The Polar Bears are a mixed-gender football club. Thus, we would be delighted if many female players would join the conference team!
