VANDA is an international conference, taking place in the beautiful capital of Austria, which aims to bring together scholars from various fields of anthropology, social sciences and humanities.

VANDA is meant to be more than a mainstream conference. It included an interactive Young Scholars’ Forum, where graduate students can network, receive mentoring and practical advice from experienced researchers. Apart from the classic conference formats session organizers are free to introduce their own creative formats.

VANDA is a green, socially inclusive conference and offered a unique social activity program.

VANDA is a joint effort by three anthropological institutions in town – the Institute for Social Anthropology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Weltmuseum Wien, and the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Vienna.

Check out HomeStay! Students will open their doors for participants during the days (and nights) of VANDA 2018 to those who wish to cut costs on accommodation and to get in contact with locals.

Check out Social Activities! For the VANDA conference to be extraordinary, its social activities must be too. Therefore we will offer an exciting and diverse program of social and cultural activities to make your time at the conference an unforgettable experience.
